Making assumptions over text has two positive outcomes and no downsides

By Fabrizio Rausa

Instead of asking questions in a bland, interview-style way, lead with assumptions. There are really only two outcomes, and both work in your favour. Either you are right, and she feels like you already know her type, which makes her want to prove she is more interesting. Or you are wrong, and she eagerly corrects you, giving you new information you can riff on with even more assumptions or take the conversation somewhere fresh. In both cases she is investing energy to show herself to you, which is an advantageous frame. It is also simply more fun. Responses like 'Why do you think I would ever do that?' open the door to deeper, more playful exchanges rather than the flat back-and-forth of a questionnaire.
