Writing about everything guarantees you'll never say anything original

By Greg Isenberg

There's a real irony when people say they want to write about everything. In doing that, you deprive yourself of ever going deep enough to arrive at something original. All you end up doing is typing and repeating commodity ideas all day long, believing you have ownership or originality because you were the one who hit publish. The discipline of staying in a narrow topic for a long time is precisely what creates the conditions for a genuine insight to emerge. Breadth is the enemy of original thinking.
