Fabrizio Rausa's argument that the nuclear family is not truly traditional

By Fabrizio Rausa

Fabrizio Rausa makes a historical claim to reframe what counts as traditional. He argues that the nuclear family is largely a 20th century arrangement, not a deep historical baseline. Before that, it was kings and emperors who had access to the most women. Ordinary men may have raised children, but the most powerful men reproduced at scale. His conclusion is that the current dating dynamic, where resources and status concentrate mating options among a smaller group of high-value men, is actually a return to a much older pattern. Feminism, by giving women financial independence, removed the economic necessity that had kept women pairing with lower-status men during the nuclear family era.
