Each relationship teaches you something that makes the next one better
Entering a relationship is never a waste of time because each one you go through typically makes the next one better. You learn new things about behaviors in a partner that you do not like, and then you can apply that knowledge the next time. Do not try to change your partner. That almost never works, and you should not be aiming to change people in the first place. People can do what they want. Do not try to change an addict, and do not try to change a liar. Expect a liar to lie and an addict to stay addicted. What you should do instead is absorb those lessons, apply them, and adapt.
