Shared ambition matters more than a shared vision in a new venture

By Edu Pou

When Edu Pou and his colleagues left their jobs to start something new together, they did not have a fully formed plan. The company was still testing the waters, experimenting, and accepting trial and error as part of the process. What made it work, in his view, was not that everyone had a clear vision of the destination, but that they had a shared intention and a shared ambition. More than a vision, that shared ambition is what he found most exciting about the project. Most of them quit stable positions to build something they could not yet define, and they were doing it together rather than pulling in separate directions.
