Why people produce AI slop: they're trying to skip the thinking step

By Greg Isenberg

The core reason people struggle with AI writing and end up producing slop is that deep down, everyone wants to skip the step of thinking and just have the robots do the thinking for them. But in doing so, you're trying to find a shortcut — and that shortcut is the longer road in disguise. AI can't assemble genuinely resonant groupings of words and sentences you've never worked out yourself. When it tries, you get something back and think, 'this isn't me.' Because it isn't. The audience sniffs it out too, and it ends up hurting you more than helping, because people associate you with someone who isn't adding value. There's nothing worse you can do than steal someone's time, and that's exactly why people hate slop so much.
