What you feel after a breakup may be attachment, not love

By Fabrizio Rausa

The pain after a relationship ends is not always love. It can simply be attachment. Fabrizio Rausa describes his own last relationship as a case where everything was right on paper, yet every time she came around he found himself wanting her to leave again. The breakup still hurt, not because of deep feelings for her specifically, but because she was almost perfect by every measurable standard and it felt strange to walk away from that. Recognising the difference matters: if your gut is telling you something is off, that signal overrides a checklist. Love is not a checklist you complete and then feelings automatically follow. It is random and it does not always make rational sense.
