The real rule on how long a first date should last

By Fabrizio Rausa

There is no hard rule like 45 minutes maximum. The actual principle is simpler: do not plan to spend a set amount of time with someone you are not sure you like yet. If after 15 minutes you realize you are not feeling it, walk out. Cut it short, make an excuse, and leave. On the other hand, if she drove an hour to see you, sitting together for two hours is fine. You did not plan for two hours, you just rewarded her with more of your time because you liked her. The mindset is this: you do not plan three hours with a stranger. You give more time as a reward when things are going well.
