Developing your photographic eye takes practice wherever you go
The ability to notice good lighting, composition, and background is something you build over time by pulling out your phone more often and actually taking photos. Fabrizio Rausa admits he almost never does it when he is back in Switzerland because the familiarity kills the natural curiosity that drives good photography. The lesson is that wherever you are, even if it feels ordinary to you, you should develop that eye for aesthetics. Study other photos, practice on subjects, and train yourself to see a frame before you shoot it. Only once that instinct is built can you reliably direct someone else to capture you well.
