Off-the-shelf tech was mandatory for global VR productions to ensure consistency

By Edu Pou

When producing large-scale VR experiences that span multiple countries at once, one unavoidable constraint is hardware and software standardisation. Edu Pou explains that for productions running simultaneously in locations as diverse as the Philippines, Poland, and São Paulo, everything had to rely on off-the-shelf components rather than custom or proprietary rigs. Custom solutions create compatibility and logistics problems that are impossible to solve at a distance. Using commercially available tools across all units was the only way to maintain consistent quality and coordination across a genuinely global production.
