Audi Australia's 'The Drive' was a four-hour slow TV film directed entirely via WhatsApp

By Edu Pou

During COVID-19 lockdowns, Edu Pou directed 'The Drive', a four-hour slow TV film for Audi Australia, without ever being on location. The entire direction happened via WhatsApp and Google Meet. Inspired by the slow TV genre (long-form unedited journeys, such as an eight-hour Norwegian train film), the project followed a red Audi A6 through Australian countryside roads. The film was launched simultaneously on Facebook and YouTube, where four hours was the practical upload limit at the time. Edu Pou notes that projects like this only happen when a client is willing to push well beyond conventional expectations, and that in this case the client genuinely drove the ambition.
