Tangled spinnaker lines: uphaul vs. downhaul confusion at sea
When something goes wrong with the spinnaker, Lauren Landers Sailing notes she does not film much of it. On this passage, what she initially thought was the downhaul wrapped around the sheets turned out to be the uphaul for the sock. The lines were still a mess, but once she identified the correct line she could go release it and sort things out. The distinction matters because the uphaul and downhaul on a spinnaker sock (snuffer sleeve) serve opposite functions, and misidentifying which one is fouled can send you to the wrong part of the rig to fix it.
