Repairing a watermaker supply hose that leaks in a near-inaccessible spot
The leak on Lauren Landers Sailing's watermaker was in the supply hose section that runs under the boat's flooring in the area around the prop shaft. The only access is through a small hole where you cannot see what you are doing. The repair approach was to disconnect the hose at a nearby quick-connect fitting, tape a guide line to the hose, and slide the whole section out from the opposite side. A rigid insert connector was used to splice out the damaged section, and both hose ends were wrapped with white and black protective tape to prevent the hose from chafing against the hull or structure and leaking again. The plan then was to slide it back through and reconnect, accepting that on a boat, theory and reality do not always match.
