Running the engine to charge batteries and make water before departing Tahiti

By Lauren Landers Sailing

Before leaving Tahiti, Lauren Landers Sailing wants the battery bank charged to 100% and held there long enough for the batteries to equalize properly. Once they are equalized, the plan is to run the watermaker. Because that sequence depends on the engine rather than on wind conditions, she plans to run the engine regardless of what the weather is doing on the day of departure. Whether or not there is enough breeze to sail, the engine will be running for charging and water-making purposes.
