Real-time drone footage vs. voiceover: showing the shark search as it happens
To bring viewers into the shark-finding process more directly, Lauren Landers Sailing decided to record the drone screen in real time rather than rely solely on voiceover after the fact. The trade-off is reduced battery life, since recording the screen uses extra power. The benefit is that viewers see exactly what she sees, including the uncertainty, the false alarms, the signal drops, and the slow process of scanning the water for a dark shape that moves. The SD card from the drone can later confirm what a spot actually was when the live transmission quality was too poor to tell.
