Sharks feeding in a bait ball: what to look for from altitude
A large, dense bait ball of schooling fish visible from a drone is also a place to spot sharks feeding. From altitude, the sharks appear as small dark shapes darting around inside or near the bait ball, noticeably bigger than individual fish but not huge. The tiger shark, interestingly, usually will not hang around the bait ball itself. The sharks more commonly seen working the bait ball are smaller species. Watching the bait ball from above rewards patience, and the key visual cue is movement: look for things that are definitely bigger than a fish and moving with purpose.
