Doing an oil change at an anchorage with a proper oil disposal point saves hassle

By Lauren Landers Sailing

Not every anchorage has a facility to dispose of used engine oil responsibly. This one did, which is exactly why Lauren Landers Sailing had held off doing the oil change until she got here. After anchoring she planned to do the oil change while the engine was warm, then launch the dinghy, load up the used oil cans alongside the rubbish, and make a single dinghy run to shore to deal with everything at once. Having a designated oil container on site makes the whole process cleaner and removes the problem of carrying waste oil to the next stop.
