Turning your laptop into a local AI server with LM Studio's dev mode

By Greg Isenberg

After you've had your first chat with a local model in LM Studio, go to its developer section and start the local server. That's when things get genuinely interesting: other apps on your machine can now talk to the model. Your laptop becomes a small AI server. A script, a prototype, or an internal tool can call the model through localhost and get an answer back. That's the moment you start to see how products are going to get built in the modern age — not by hitting a remote API, but by routing requests to a model running right there on your hardware.
