The social media manager role is effectively dead — here's what replaces it

By Greg Isenberg

What a truly excellent social media manager used to do was: prospect for ideas, make content about those ideas, publish it, look at the data to see what got the most impressions, and then turn that into a recurring content calendar — remixing the same winning ideas over and over. That entire workflow can now be run by agents. The real opportunity is for a single person to manage 10, 20, or 100 accounts across all channels using agents. The role isn't disappearing, it's evolving into 'social media agent manager' — someone who knows how to spin up agents that systematically create content at scale, generating millions of free impressions. As one practitioner put it: the platforms are literally paying you to build your lead pipeline.
