Step 1 — Isolate: why every new feature needs its own Git worktree

By Greg Isenberg

The first step of the workflow is 'Isolate.' Every new feature starts in a fresh Git worktree branched from origin main, so agents can work in parallel without conflicts. Never build on main. Think of a worktree as a copy-paste of the exact state of the app at that moment — like copying a block of text into a new document, working on that document, and eventually merging it back into the original. This means you can have Greg working on a new landing page in one branch while Mike is optimizing API calls in another branch simultaneously. When each is done, you merge changes back into main. Because they worked on separate copies, there are no conflicts.
