Is this just a fancy word for layoffs? An honest answer

By Greg Isenberg

It's a fair question — and the honest answer is nuanced. What the early examples show is that people are shifting from doing the work to checking it, and each person is handling more clients than before. That said, it would be dishonest to say no jobs are going to change — a lot of them will. Some people will thrive in the evolved role, some will be satisfactory, and some won't meet expectations in the new structure and will likely get laid off. We haven't seen a lot of that yet, but it will happen. The key distinction is that the primary driver is productivity expansion, not headcount reduction — but the two aren't mutually exclusive over time.
