Agents need 'clean doors' — messy websites built for humans won't work

By Greg Isenberg

Humans are remarkably good at suffering through bad web experiences. We click around, zoom in, read a FAQ from 2019, open a PDF, and eventually find what we need. Agents can't do that. They need information in a format they can trust and use — what Greg Isenberg calls 'clean doors.' Cloudflare's AI index points in the same direction, pushing things like MCPs, LLM.txt, search APIs, and bulk data APIs precisely because agents need not just access but structure. The practical consequence for founders is a large-scale transformation: websites become resource layers, content becomes indexes, expertise becomes callable, data becomes metered, and tools become agent-accessible. That's the shift worth building toward.
