Take responsibility for relationship outcomes without tying your self-worth to them

By Fabrizio Rausa

There is a crucial distinction between taking responsibility and diminishing your self-worth. You should always ask yourself where things went wrong and how you could have commanded more respect, then adjust your behaviour accordingly. But if someone treats you badly, it usually has very little to do with your actual worth. It reflects their perception of you, not your reality. Being cheated on or mistreated does not suddenly make you a lesser person. You are learning and improving, but you are not becoming someone else entirely. Always work toward a better version of yourself, without letting another person's actions define your value.
