Tiger sharks are curious; hammerheads keep their distance around divers

By Lauren Landers Sailing

Based on roughly 100 to 200 dives in the area, Lauren Landers Sailing and her diving partner Tara found that great hammerheads tend to be smart and keep their distance, while tiger sharks are more curious, especially if something large and bloody is present. Despite the presence of big shark species, they only encountered large sharks a handful of times across all those dives. Lauren stresses that she would not enter murky water with a large shark and that she always exits the water if conditions feel unsafe.
