Squalls everywhere: taking advantage of brief weather windows for diving

By Lauren Landers Sailing

With a weather system moving through and squalls scattered all around, Lauren and crew jumped in for a quick dive the moment conditions allowed, not knowing what the rest of the day would bring. The approach was simply to take advantage of the calm moments as they came. The reef itself was disappointing compared to a previous visit, with a lot of dead coral and mostly black coral on the drop-off, though they did see quite a few sharks. The broader lesson was about adaptability: when the weather is 'doing some weird things' and a system is passing through, you grab the windows you get rather than waiting for perfect conditions.
