Shelling on the beach serves as moving meditation for cruisers

By Lauren Landers Sailing

Taking a walk on the beach to collect shells is described as a naturally meditative practice, a quiet, rhythmic activity that creates space for reflection. Beyond the mental benefit, the shells have started serving a creative purpose too. Just a couple of days before this walk, the first pair of shell earrings was made, turning collected finds into wearable keepsakes that can come along if and when returning to land. Not working on Sundays has become a personal rule, with that time reserved for fun projects like painting or making jewelry, giving the slower pace of cruising life a sense of creative intention.
