Having knowledgeable friends nearby turns a crisis into a manageable problem
With the engine down and the wind dying, Lauren Landers Sailing had two sets of friends on standby. Josh was going to come out and hip-tie her boat, Mariah, into the anchorage, and her friend Sisle and Oscar on their boat Lulu were also on standby in case a second dinghy was needed. Having that support network meant that even a 20-mile dinghy rescue was a real option. Lauren reflected that a boat can go from looking good to looking like trash in seconds, and having people around who are knowledgeable about boats made all the difference to her confidence during the night.
