Fatuhiva's Bay of Virgins waterfall hike: what to expect

On what turned out to be her last day in the Bay of Virgins at Fatuhiva, Lauren Landers Sailing hiked to a waterfall that is about two miles each way from the village anchorage. The trail passes lush, hot vegetation, and a sign on the hillside marks the left turn toward the falls. The waterfall itself is strikingly cold, almost like an ice pack. Two local children joined the hike along the way. Overcast skies made the walk more comfortable than a sunny day would have been.
