Deciding not to fish offshore when the likely catch would be unmanageably large
Lauren Landers Sailing made a deliberate choice not to fish during this particular offshore passage. Her reasoning was practical: anything she hooked out there would almost certainly be very large, a big tuna for example, and dealing with landing and processing a massive fish alone on a moving boat is not worth the effort. She had a friend on the destination island who had already caught two tunas, so she planned to share their fish or eat with them once she arrived. When you have the option to source protein at the destination, managing a large pelagic fish singlehanded mid-passage simply is not worth it.
