Arriving at Rangiroa: planning a same-day dive trip to the better pass

After a light-wind sail, Lauren Landers Sailing arrived at Rangiroa and immediately began planning the day. Rangiroa has two passes and, by local reputation, the far pass at Tiputa (Tar) is better for diving than the more popular one near the main anchorage. Rather than wait, a group of nine people from several boats, including Nanuka and Isa, planned to hop aboard Isa right away to sail to that second pass, dive it, grab groceries from the better stores in that direction, and be back by sunset. The wind was expected to pick up the following night, so getting the dive in that day made sense.
