A surprise manta ray encounter on a last-minute atoll dive
After provisioning and moving to the closest pass the evening before departure, Lauren Landers Sailing and Josh jumped in for one final dive with no expectations. They drifted with the incoming tide and were just about to call it when a manta ray appeared out of nowhere, then another, and another. Within minutes, close to 15 manta rays were swimming past them against the current as they fed. For Lauren, the moment was a reminder of why she loves the ocean: 'We never know what mother ocean will give us, and it's always a gift.' It is a perfect example of how the best experiences at sea are unplanned.
