A rechargeable, sensor-activated pet water fountain solves a liveaboard power problem

By Lauren Landers Sailing

On a sailboat where the inverter gets switched off at night to conserve power, a standard plug-in pet water fountain stops working in the early hours. Lauren Landers Sailing solved this by switching to the Kitty Spout brand rechargeable pet fountain. It runs on its own battery charge, so it does not depend on shore power or the inverter being on. It also has a motion sensor: the fountain only runs when the cat approaches, and it shuts off automatically when there is no movement nearby. This means it is not cycling water continuously and wasting power. The product is stainless steel with a top spout and a separate sensor unit. Lauren notes it should be available on her Amazon storefront if it is listed there.
