Why scaling horizontally with cloud agents beats working locally

By Greg Isenberg

The goal is to be able to run as many agents as possible simultaneously without being bogged down on a laptop trying to figure out which code is colliding or which work tree you're on. All of that technical friction keeps you from shipping. Cloud-based agents like Devin solve this because the compute and state live in the cloud, not on your local machine. This is why roughly 50% of the work can even be done from a phone — you can check on a pull request, review it, or land it from a mobile browser while in the shower. The setup is simple: Slack for agent notifications, 1Password for keys, Devin in the browser, and Codex locally for desktop work.
