Why 50 specialized role profiles may overcomplicate your AI workflow

By Greg Isenberg

The idea of building 50 different profiles — one for a product manager, one for a graphic designer, one for a writer — sounds appealing in theory, but it may create more cognitive overhead than it solves. Keeping track of which of 50 profiles to use for any given task takes up mental bandwidth, and modern frontier models are generally intelligent enough that you can do graphic design, write a YouTube script, and plan a product roadmap all within a single smart profile like one powered by Claude Opus. The practical recommendation is to organize profiles primarily around model differences — their cost, speed, and capability trade-offs — rather than trying to simulate an entire organization chart of specialized personas.
