Where to start with local AI if you're beginning today: a four-step entry path
If starting from scratch today, the recommended on-ramp is: run Gemma locally and read model cards on Hugging Face to build baseline familiarity; learn the difference between LM Studio and Ollama as local runtime environments; play with Google AI Edge to understand on-device deployment; and then look for one boring, repetitive workflow where local AI actually makes the product better — not just different, but genuinely better. The goal isn't to master everything at once. It's to find one real use case where the local constraint — privacy, latency, offline access, trust — is actually an advantage.
