Universities are too slow — AI is the wave right now, not the next wave

By Greg Isenberg

Greg Isenberg draws a direct parallel to 2009, when the App Store had just launched and it was obvious mobile apps were the next wave — yet university textbooks were still teaching old-school software and professors said Objective-C simply wasn't in the curriculum. The same dynamic is playing out now with AI agents, except it's even more stark: AI isn't even the next wave, it's the wave. Universities will eventually catch up with FDE and AI agent courses, but they're slow by nature. The foundational material — math, physics, learning how to think — is still valuable, but the tactical, applied work? You're largely on your own.
