Three levels of AI agent usage most people sit at today
There are roughly three levels of how people currently work with AI agents. Level one is simply chatting with ChatGPT, Claude, or a similar model — basic back-and-forth. Level two is having agents actually running, but you're sitting there waiting for the next question to pop up, a permission prompt, or a check-in — clicking Approve, Approve, Approve in tools like Cloud Code or Codex. Maybe you have auto-edits on, but someone is always there waiting for the agent to ask if the next step is okay. Level three — the destination — is true agent autonomy, where the agent comes to you with things rather than constantly asking for permission, running for days or even weeks without your oversight, doing great work because it genuinely understands what's needed.
