Think of every company as a factory: tools, workers, and human judgment working together
Every company is essentially a factory. There's an assembly line, different parts of it, and people doing various kinds of work — all combining to produce a product. The job of specialized engineering services is to decompose any company into its systems: what tools are being used in each department (sales tech, NetSuite, etc.), who are the people doing the actual work, and where human judgment is irreplaceable. Not everything can be handled by software or automated workers — there's almost always a human role somewhere in the process. Mapping this system completely is what reveals what most companies don't realize: what they think is their full system is really just the tip of the iceberg.
