The four pillars every autonomous agent must have to succeed
For an agent to operate autonomously — running for days or weeks without constant human oversight — it needs four things working together: a clear goal, the right skills, the right tools, and sufficient context. Think of it like a new hire on their first day. If you walked into a new company and were immediately expected to put together a board deck for the following week, with no management support, you'd likely fail. The goal might be fuzzy, you don't have the company-specific skills yet, you don't know which tools to use, and you have zero context about what's going on. That's exactly the situation most agents are placed in when people get impatient and expect great output from a simple prompt. Baking in all four pillars — goals, skills, tools, and context — is what unlocks genuine agent autonomy.
