The first thing to build as a marketing engineer: a growth repo

By Greg Isenberg

The first thing to build is a growth repo. It sounds a little nerdy, but even if you're non-technical, you can do it. Go create a GitHub repo — or honestly just a structured folder — and call it something like 'growth OS.' It becomes the place where the company's marketing memory lives. The problem it solves is that most people use AI in random chats: they open ChatGPT or Claude or Gemini, ask for ten posts, copy one they like into a doc, and then the work disappears. Next week the AI is starting from scratch again. What it really needed was the performance data, the founder's voice, the objections from sales calls, and the language that actually created replies. The growth repo fixes that.
