Solo founders have a real shot at this — not just billion-dollar funds
Most people assume that only billion-dollar funds like Thrive or General Catalyst can execute this kind of AI-powered small-business acquisition strategy. Greg Isenberg disagrees. He believes there is a huge opportunity here for solo founders and small teams, and that almost nobody is talking about it from that angle. When he posted about it on X it got over a million impressions, and his DMs filled up with people asking him to stop talking about it publicly because they felt there was too much alpha in the idea. His view is that the same playbook the big funds are running — buy a retiring owner's service business, layer in AI agents to automate the repetitive work, and expand margins that have been stuck for decades — is executable at a much smaller scale by an individual operator who knows what they're doing.
