Simple automation builds (Zapier/Make/n8n) are ideal for cut-and-dry workflows

By Greg Isenberg

On the consulting upsell menu, simple everyday automation builds — using tools like Zapier, Make.com, or n8n — are best suited for processes that have a very clear input, a very clear output, and typically just one to three steps. In those cases, a more sophisticated AI workflow is often overkill. A real example: a wedding venue rental business had its operations manager manually duplicating Asana project templates every time a new client came on board. It was the exact same process every time. A single Zap automated it entirely for a $1,500 fee. The operations manager was spending about 30 minutes a week on that task — not huge today, but as the business scales that becomes 2 hours a week. The build took basic Zapier knowledge, something anyone could pick up after a couple of hours of YouTube videos.
