Four monetization models for marketing engineers, from in-house to SaaS
There are four concrete ways marketing engineering becomes money. First, go in-house: if you're already a marketer, RevOps person, growth person, or creator, this skill set sits directly next to revenue and is one of the clearest paths to becoming a $250K–$500K hire. Second, consulting: embed with a founder or company for 30, 60, or 90 days, build one growth system — a customer truth repo, a founder content engine, an outbound signal engine — and charge $5K–$30K per month depending on what you're building. Third, productized services: pick one wedge and repeat it for one niche. Examples include outbound signal engines for vertical SaaS, founder content engines for B2B CEOs, or customer truth repos for seed-stage startups. The tighter the wedge, the easier it is to sell, deliver, and repeat. Fourth, software: the biggest outcomes likely come here, but start with services first. Build the same system for five or ten companies by hand, notice the pain that repeats, then turn that into software — a set of agents. This approach also prevents building something nobody wants. These models stack: consult to learn what works, productize what every client needs, then eventually turn it into software.
