Don't just find bottlenecks — evaluate which ones are worth fixing

By Greg Isenberg

A lot of people say 'look for the bottlenecks and solve them,' but that advice isn't fully complete. The fuller version is: look for the bottlenecks, then evaluate the value of fixing those bottlenecks, and then pick the bottleneck that is high value to fix. Right now, the bottleneck probably isn't writing code or coming up with good design. It might be something like getting a project from a local HTML file into an actual iOS app, or figuring out word-of-mouth and referral systems, which are still genuinely messy. If you fix that referral bottleneck, your word-of-mouth coefficient could go above one. That's where the real leverage is.
