Cost savings from agents create margin that companies can reinvest or return

By Greg Isenberg

When AI agents reduce a company's per-invoice processing cost from $31 to $6, the organization suddenly operates with significantly higher margins on that function. Some of those savings stay with the company as profit, but part of the opportunity is to pass a portion back to customers through lower prices or better service. This dynamic reframes the common concern that agents simply replace workers: the more accurate picture is that agents compress operational costs in ways that make the entire business more competitive, creating value that can flow to multiple stakeholders — the company, its customers, and ultimately the market.
