A local pre-send reviewer for professional services is 'schmuck insurance'

By Greg Isenberg

Almost every professional services firm — law firms, accounting firms, wealth advisors, recruiting firms, consultants — has a version of the same workflow: someone writes a client email, proposal, memo, or contract summary, then asks someone else to check it before it goes out. Greg Isenberg sees a product here: a local desktop app that reviews outbound drafts before they leave the company. For a wealth advisor, it flags language that sounds like a guaranteed return. For a law firm, it flags sentences that sound too definitive. For HR, it flags sensitive employee information that shouldn't be in the thread. For an agency, it flags a promise the scope doesn't support. For an accountant, it flags a number that doesn't match the attached file. The product is essentially a second set of eyes for sensitive work — what Greg calls 'schmuck insurance.' His growth strategy: start with one vertical and one document type, such as email review for independent wealth advisors. Interview 10 advisors, ask them which emails make them nervous, and collect anonymized examples to train and refine the checker.
